If you haven’t listened to D.K. Lyons before, “loveseeking” is a great place to start. It’s the first single from his forthcoming EP, Darling Kiss Louder, and it’s a great introduction as Lyons moves into a new phase and switches up his sound.

While his past releases have been on the poppier side of pop-rock, “loveseeking” opens with dreamy synths and soft guitar that bring to mind early music from The 1975, and more recent tracks from The Maine. As the lyrics begin, and the song switches into full yearning mode, some listeners may also find themselves hit with a wave of nostalgia for the neon pop punk sound that’s gotten harder to find these days.

The song isn’t leaning on nostalgia, but if you find it here, it pairs nicely with the song’s earnest lyrical plea. “loveseeking” gives us a speaker who keeps finding himself alone but can’t stop looking for that “little bit of magic” that love and a new relationship always promises. Maybe the lyrics bring to mind your own search for love, or all the places you’ve lost it and found it — if so, the dreamy tone gives you that space to reminisce.

Even if you get lost in the feeling, though, you can’t miss the insanely catchy guitar riff that hits right after the chorus. It’s a highlight of the single for sure, and just like the chorus, you’ll find it stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

The video for “loveseeking” drops on May 22nd, so be sure to stay tuned for that! If you live in the NYC area, you can also catch D.K. Lyons live as he presents his second annual Gemini Ball at The Bowery Electric in NYC on June 18th. If you can make it, be sure to check it out — that guitar riff is gonna sound even better live.
