Just over two years since their full-length debut, melodic punk trio Bridge The Gap is back with their sophomore album, Gainsayer. Teaming up once again with producer Bill Stevenson (Descendents, Black Flag) to record at his studio in Ft. Collins, Colorado, the longtime group of friends delivers nothing short of a top tier follow up to 2023’s Secret Kombinations.
Gainsayer never drags, delivering a truly driving experience across the 14 track run. Featuring previous singles “Broken Language”, “Dustbin”, “Brothers”, and “In The Throes”, it’s evident how much time and attention was put into crafting this album as a whole, rather than putting together a collection of wonderful but disconnected songs. The title track sets the tone for the album, laying the groundwork for what follows with compelling vocal melodies and poignant lyricism. There’s no lack of expertly crafted guitar solos or perfectly executed bass lines, but, according to Chad Jensen (vocals/guitar), “The priority was solid, catchy melodies, and then the band built on it from there.” No matter what else the band created around that base, “the foundation of this record is the strength of the vocal melodies and the songs themselves.”
Returning to The Blasting Room with Stevenson and Jason Livermore (Rise Against, NOFX) just 20 months after the release of Secret Kombinations, Bridge the Gap found themselves on a new playing field. They came back more cohesive than ever after spending their months of pre-production carefully selecting which songs would make it onto their much anticipated sophomore album. The resulting album is powerful and cohesive on levels that the trio had yet to reach with their debut.
Bridge The Gap, composed of friends Chad Jensen (vocals/guitar), Shon Foster (bass/backing vocals) and Ryan Thompson (drums/backing vocals), reconnected in 2020 after years spent focusing on their families and pursuing their careers outside of music. With the demos that Jensen spent years holding onto, inspiration struck and led the trio to start fresh with Bridge The Gap.
Now working with Double Helix Records in America, along with SBAM Records (EU) and Pee Records (Australia/New Zealand/Japan), Bridge The Gap has garnered both media and radio attention with their release of Gainsayer. First pressing editions of Gainsayer are available now via Double Helix Records and the band’s webstore, and the album is available on all major streaming platforms.
